silicone souls darkroom dubs label has pulled off quite a coup with their latest release. taking a retrospective look through the labels archive, the duo approached some of their favourite producers, asking them to rework and give their own take some of the music from previous releases... and boy are we in for a treat! the coup in question was the securing of the talents of a certain mr robag wruhme. currently enjoying the acclaim generated from his exquisite long player, >thora vukk< (pampa), wruhme has kindly turned his attention to remixing extrawelts >neuland< for darkroom dubs. the lead track from their 2010 >neuland< marked a key moment for the label, as silicone soul celebrated the signing of an act that they had admired for many years. robag provides not one, but two reworks of the stunning original, each as impressive and moving as the other. the second rework sees john selway turning filippo mancinelli & allen mays >the hills< on its head. the deepness of the 2009 original, is still in evidence as the atmospheric sounds sweep within selways wonderfully driving tech reconstruction.

our japanese dear friend hidenobu ito is definitely overwhelming and it seems almost comically out of place. from alien hydraulics to percussive steel fractals he allows to take shape within the realm of impossibility. so, what follows next on numbolic records is a stunning lesson in subtle buildup of sound design. theres a feeling of constant movement and shaky energy that means his music never quite stands still. highly resonant and rapidly-panning drum hits act like flickering fluorescent lights. the result is a heavily abstracted layering and perhaps our most sonically release to date. every sound, no matter how tiny, is endlessly tweaked and picked apart. the 12 inch ep is rounded off with 2 prickly re-interpretations. dualism turns up the fog with a super-deep captivating and yet lovingly version. while ditch comes up with a characteristic throbbing dirty techno rework. another 4 smashing tracks by hidenobu ito are added digitally as well as two bonus remixes. kai provides a dance floor-approved version and the hungarian newcomer as we said made a cartoon spaceship to the moon. big pulsating bass kicks will drive you in that particular head-space, but before accidentally killing someone in love, we suggest go get this record instead and start dance! be numbolic!

the ever evolving ever inspiring argentinean turned berliner musical talent that we call out nico purman, once again honors the house of vakant with his latest disco inspired offering to the gods entitled visions ep. in such a short period of time nico has come so far both physically and meta-musically. within just a few releases one can easily hear him developing, maturing, and mastering his chosen art medium. from the mechanical tech funk of his tuesday ep (va017) and euphrasia ep (va025), to the space jazz masterpiece that was rhapsodies (va032), his first step toward disco was in fact with his contribution >xpress yourself< to the family values compilation (va034). with visions ep, once again nico effortlessly transgresses whatever style he wishes and makes it his own. taking a few pages from the book of disco as well as a touch of chicago and a pinch of early new york house, nico both tips his hat to those influences as well as taking things several steps further to create something completely original.

rome, italy native fabio bacchini has been holding it down for underground house music with his label mind travel, but takes a step to the left to give us a hot little ep on transport. the roman disco ep is exactly what it says on the box: no fancy gimmicks here, this release is comprised of four solid disco house jams. the first tune >weekender< is a nice phase guitar loop jam with signature disco pulsating strings amidst the happy snapping snare beats and soul train vocal snips. next is my favorite cut, >money talks<, a straight up disco rhodes organ jam a la the crusaders. add some saxophone in there for points with ladies, and you have yourself a jam. on the flip we have >in the mood< is takes the mood a bit deeper with a nice n spacey groove amidst a rhythm heavy beat. throw some synth strings and keys riffs in there for good measure and there you have it... disco house. sometimes stays within the same formula but brings a more pulsating sound that pushes the music. the tune is still deep and groovy as the ep winds down...

party breaks unabashedly shows its colors with 4 new brilliant marcos cabral edits. with samples ranging from boogie, to piano house, to a beefed up disco ballad, marcos layers sounds and phrases in an effortless manor for major effect. sometimes robin s will peak through, sometimes bob-a-rella…all within a strict drum machine groove. all the tracks were clearly built with the dj in mind, repetitive when wanting to hypnotize, and pop when wanting to catch listeners.

encapsulating carolas approach to techno in both sound and title, groove catcher is the naples producer at his best, with a rolling bassline punctuated by a percussion pattern that teases out the funk of the track in carolas trademark style: pacey and direct, but with enough bounce and fluidity to fully snare the occupants of the dancefloor within its grip and make them do its bidding. fellow album cut, the method, which appears on the vinyl format only, is similarly insistent whilst lighter in tone - if groove catcher is best employed at the peak of a club set, then the method is its daytime terrace equivalent. leading the ep will be the rework of groove catcher by martin buttrich, with the german producer lending the considerable talents that have led to releases on poker flat and cocoon recordings - as well as his recruitment behind the mixing desk for timo maas and loco dice - to a pair of remixes that transform the original into a different beast entirely. remix a mutates groove catcher into something monstrous and intimidating, bringing a different intensity to the track and injecting it with a heightened sense of danger.
